The doctrine of the end times in Philippians

Today I turn to the latter days.  As I read Philippians, I am looking for insights into what we should believe about the end times.

In 1:6 we learn that God will complete the work that be begins in believers at the “day of Jesus Christ”

In 1:10 Paul exhorts the church to be pure and blameless for the “day of Christ”

From 1:21 we learn that there is something to be gained when believers die

From 1:23 we learn that when Paul dies he has the expectation that he will be with Christ

In 1:28 we learn that the future destruction of all opponents of Christ is assured

In 1:28 we also learn that the future salvation of believers is assured

In 2:10-11 we learn that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord

In 2:12 we learn that believers are to work out their salvation with fear and trembling

In 2:15 the Philippian believers are called to be without blemish so that at the “day of Christ” Paul may be proud that he didn’t run in vain

In 3:11 we learn that believers may attain the resurrection from the dead

In 3:12 we can surmise that one day believers will be perfected

In 3:19 we again learn that the enemies of the cross of Christ will receive destruction

In 3:20 we learn that for the believer their citizenship is in heaven that that Jesus is a Saviour

In 3:21 we learn that at the resurrection believers will have their bodies transformed into new glorious bodies like Christ’s

In 3:21 we also learn that Christ will subject all things to himself

In 4:3 we read that fellow labourers have their names in the book of life
